Eyeliner is Life!

What pulls your eyeshadow + mascara + entire face together? Eyeliner!

Seriously.

I get asked about ways to make eyeshadow look better and it's so easy to see when eyeliner is missing.

Eyeliner wearers know about the customary offhand flick on the eyelid but did you know that:

-different tools and products give you different looks
-tightlining is where the money's at?

First, you can line your eyes with almost anything to get varying effects: black pencil liner, white pencil, coloured liner, gel liner, eyeshadow, metallic shades, liquid liner...

You can also play around with the bottom lash line for other effects.

Eyeliner takes a practise if you haven't yet got it down. It helps to draw short lines or dots and then connect them. This trick is especially helpful for winged eyeliner or just using liquid liner which can be tough.

Another tip is to use an angled eyeliner brush with s bit of concealer and clean up the line if you make mistakes.

Now on to the real point of this. May I introduce tightlining- the whole other ballgame.

This is the grown grown ish.

Tightlining is the method of lining your inner lash lines instead of outer.

This is much less "made up" than the outside lines. It can also change the appearance of your eye size and shape.

You can line just the lower rim or upper or both for your desired look. I suggest trying them all just to know.
Left: Tightline | Right:  Eye pencil on the outer

To tightline, gently pull down your lower eyelid and run your pencil or gel eyeliner on the inside from where your eyelashes begin to pop out of your skin otherwise known as the waterline. Keep your lines neat and thin.

For the top, gently pull up the lid and repeat. For me, it's simpler to close my eye and stick the pencil in there aiming for the top and go back and forth. The internet is full of simple tricks to make the process quicker and less traumatic for first timers (No trauma. I'm kidding)

A soft pencil is perfect for this. Soften it by holding it to a flame for a few seconds, then letting it cool before use.

Your pencil should not be too sharp for this.

You may also use a push liner brush and gel eyeliner to achieve the same effect.

It will take some practise to stop poking yourself in the eye. It will also take lots of tears but when you get the hang of it, you'll look the shit and you will be the shit.

Eyeliner is pretty important to good eye makeup. A super fly eye shadow look with mascara still always looks naked without that I AM WOMAN eyeliner.

Eyeliner doesn't always have to be just black either. The possibilities are endless.

(I would recommend tightlining the eyes in black if you're going for a coloured eyeliner look though.)

I would love to hear your eyeliner secrets. :)
